Meet Dr. Lucia Ferreras-Cox

Physician, IBCLC, Perinatal Mental Health Specialist — 11 years of telehealth expertise serving families from birth to college

Both as a Physician and as a Mother

I’m Dr. Lucia Ferreras-Cox, and I’ve spent my entire career in your shoes—both as a physician and as a mother. I am a Board-Certified Pediatrician, an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and Perinatal Mental Health-Certified (PMH-C). I also hold a license in Healthcare Risk Management.

My Clinical Journey

From Public Health to Private Practice
My journey began at the University of Puerto Rico for my undergraduate studies, followed by medical school at the Universidad Central del Caribe and residency at the University Pediatric Hospital in Puerto Rico. My path led me to serve for seven years as a scholar in the United States Public Health Service, where I cared for agricultural migrant communities and served as a medical director. I later opened my private practice in Tampa Bay before settling in Phoenix, where I now call home.

11 Years of Telehealth Leadership

Experience at the Front Lines
Having practiced medicine for years—including telemedicine 11 years before it became the norm—I’ve learned one inescapable truth that often gets buried in the clinical noise: Your baby’s wellness cannot be bought at the expense of your own.

With 11 years of telemedicine expertise and a career spent in high-stakes public health and private practice, I have honed the ability to synthesize complex behavioral and developmental data into clear, actionable care plans.

The Philosophy Behind MindMilkMD

The absolute best thing for your baby isn’t a perfect latch or a rigid schedule. It is a parent who feels supported, sane, and securely bonded. MindMilkMD is here to bring you back to your center. We are here to guard your peace of mind while protecting your baby’s health, helping you navigate the early days with science-backed guidance that respects your values.

Why I Bridge Multiple Specialties

Most lactation consultants (IBCLCs) come from peer-support backgrounds. While their emotional support is vital, they lack the diagnostic license, prescribing power, and deep pathophysiological training of a physician. I bridge that gap entirely.

When your infant is struggling to feed, I am not just looking at a latch; I am simultaneously evaluating their neurological tone, oral anatomy, metabolic health, perinatal risk factors–including signs and symptoms of infection–and airway safety.

Because I am a physician, I don’t have to refer you out when things get complicated. I diagnose infant food allergies, identify structural restrictions, triage acute maternal breast pathology, and write the necessary prescriptions immediately. MindMilkMD combines advanced diagnostic science with specialized clinical lactation mechanics—delivered straight to your home when you need it most.

The Home Environment Changes Everything

A physical office building does not diagnose a child; an experienced clinician does. Using evidence-based models like Telehealth Treatment of Behavior Problems in Young Children with Developmental Delay, we know that the most accurate assessments happen where your child feels safe, regulated, and at home.

What this means for your family:

Higher Diagnostic Accuracy: I see your child’s true behavior, unmasked by “white coat” anxiety or the overstimulation of a clinic.

Rational, Cognitive Analysis: My approach isn’t rushed. It is built on deep history-taking, validated standardized tools, and the time-tested clinical reasoning that only comes from years on the front lines of pediatrics.

The Power of the Home Environment: By meeting you via secure video, I help you implement interventions in real-time, in the very space where your child lives and grows.

What Patients Say

Your family’s health and wellbeing are our priority.

Our Clinical Approach

At MindMilkMD, we don’t just accept the limitations of traditional pediatrics—we leverage the evidence-based advantages of telehealth. Our practice is physician-led, combining advanced diagnostic medicine with the immediate convenience of virtual care. We don’t just offer basic triage—we diagnose pathology, interpret complex labs, and write targeted prescriptions straight to your pharmacy from the comfort of your home.

Whether it is an unexpected midnight fever or the ongoing management of a complex adolescent health journey, virtual pediatric care bridges the gap between expert clinical medicine and your busy life.

Why You Can Trust MindMilkMD

We know that changing how you access healthcare can feel intimidating. If you are hesitant about whether a screen can capture the complexity of your child’s needs, we invite you to see the evidence. We aren’t just “convenient”—we are clinically rigorous.

The new AAP article directly supports our strategy: it explicitly recommends that pediatricians use telehealth to “observe the child in his or her environment” and provide “evidence-based behavioral health skills and coaching interventions for caregivers” right in the home, completely validating the clinical philosophy behind MindMilkMD.

You don’t have to navigate your child’s health—or your own—alone.
